Alessandro Gamberini is sure he has made the right choice by joining Chievo Verona, despite strong interest in his services from Leeds United.

The 32-year-old had narrowed his list of options down to either Chievo or Leeds, but after careful consideration opted to remain in Serie A and has joined the Verona-based team from Napoli on a two-year deal.

It is a move which has gone down well with the Italy international, who is now preparing to do his utmost for his new club.

"I come here with a lot of enthusiasm because I was flattered by Chievo, they had so much interest in me and I am honoured to be part of this project", Gamberini told Chievo's site.

"Beyond the goals that the team set, the important thing is always to give your maximum and being able to adapt to situations, always doing the best."

Gamberini also suggested that the presence of veteran centre-back Dario Dainelli at Chievo had been pivotal, the two having played together at Fiorentina.

"With Dario Dainelli I have a special relationship that goes beyond football.

"Among us there is respect and true friendship. I'm glad to have him as a team-mate."
