Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino expressed his delight after his side edged out Toronto FC 3-2 last night to secure their first win of the pre-season tour of the United States.

Spurs, who drew 3-3 with Seattle Sounders at the weekend, went into half-time 2-0 up, courtesy of a brace from Erik Lamela.

However, Toronto fought back hard after the break as goals from Andrew Wiedeman and Jordan Hamilton levelled proceedings at BMO Field.

But Andros Townsend scored the winner for Tottenham in the dying moments of the match and Pochettino was extremely pleased with the performance of his side.

The Argentine explained that Spurs’ improvement from their last game was more important than the result itself.

“I’m very pleased because we had a very good performance and another 90 minutes to improve and learn our new style”, Pochettino told his club’s official site.

“We work hard in the training sessions and that’s what we need to show in the games. The result isn’t the most important thing, but how the squad improves.

“It was an also opportunity to play in front of our supporters in Toronto so yes, overall, I’m very happy.”

Tottenham will wrap up their pre-season tour of the USA with a fixture against Chicago Fire at Toyota Park on Saturday.
