Monaco are embroiled in a transfer battle with Liverpool and Atletico Madrid for Benfica midfielder Nicolas Gaitan, according to French radio station RMC.

Gaitan has promised that he will not push to leave Benfica this summer, where he claims to be happy. However, the Portuguese giants are open to listening to offers for the Argentine.

And he has interest from three clubs in the shape of Ligue 1 outfit Monaco, Premier League giants Liverpool and Spanish champions Atletico Madrid.

Monaco are flush with cash from the sale of James Rodriguez to Real Madrid, while Liverpool have been boosted by selling Luis Suarez to Barcelona for £75m.

Atletico Madrid have themselves brought in significant sums, selling Diego Costa and Filipe Luis to Chelsea.
