Atletico Madrid are making a late bid to scupper Liverpool's move for Lille striker Divock Origi.

The young striker’s performances for Belgium in the World Cup have drawn interest towards him this summer, with a number of clubs keen.

Liverpool are believed to be the favourites to land him and then send him back to Lille on loan, and he is set to undergo a medical this week in the US, where the Reds are on tour.

However, Atletico Madrid have made a late entry in the race to sign the Belgian, according to Madrid-based daily Marca.

Los Rojiblancos coach Diego Simeone is keen to add the striker to his squad and would like to partner him with Mario Mandzukic as a secondary forward.

Origi joined Lille’s youth set-up from Genk in 2012 and scored on his first-team debut for the club. He still has two years left on his contract with the French outfit, who want to ensure they can call upon him in the new season.

Origi’s move to Liverpool is all but sealed, but Atletico Madrid's late entry into the race has added a twist to the transfer saga.
