Costa Rica manager Jorge Luis Pinto has stepped down from his post after a breakdown in talks with the national federation.

The 61-year-old took charge of the Central American country in 2011 and guided them to the quarter-finals of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Costa Rica surprisingly topped their group, which consisted of former champions Italy, England and Uruguay.

Los Ticos then edged out Greece in the Round of 16 via a shoot-out, before losing out to the Netherlands on penalties in the quarter-finals.

Pinto, whose coaching career spans over 30 years, has managed clubs in Colombia and Peru.
