Fiorentina have agreed a fee with Mexican club Monterrey for Argentina international defender Jose Maria Basanta.

Basanta played the full 90 minutes in Argentina’s crucial World Cup quarter-final tie against Belgium, replacing Marcos Rojo, who was suspended for that game.

His performance against Belgium garnered praise from all quarters and a number of clubs registered their interest in the full-back.

However, Fiorentina have announced that they have agreed a deal with Monterrey for the Argentine defender to win the race.

Basanta needs to pass a medical before the deal is completed for a reported fee of £2.8m.
