Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has left the door open for goalkeeper Pepe Reina to rejoin the club, but insisted the custodian must push for the move.

Reina spent last season on loan at Napoli from Liverpool, but is back training with the Reds this summer, following the expiry of his agreement with the Azzurri.

The Italian side have hit a brick wall in attempts to bring him back, unable to do a deal with Liverpool and with Reina's salary a stumbling block.

"Reina knows that we would welcome him with open arms, but it is for him to say 'I wish strongly to join Napoli'. I cannot be the one to say that I wish for Reina", De Laurentiis told ANSA.

"The doors for us, are open. We are not afraid to have a big squad and it is better to have one player more than less."

Reina is currently behind Belgian Simon Mignolet in the pecking order at Liverpool and appears unlikely to be happy to warm the bench.

However, there is still no word on the goalkeeper's future being resolved.
