Carles Puyol admits that there is no justification for Luis Suarez’s actions during the World Cup, but feels he is a great signing for Barcelona.

Suarez has been banned by FIFA for four months from all football related activities and has also received a nine-match international suspension for biting Italy’s Giorgio Chiellini during the World Cup in Brazil.

However, the sanctions didn’t stop Barcelona from signing the Uruguayan from Liverpool for a reported fee of £75m.

The former Barcelona captain admits that Suarez’s actions deserved to be condemned, but said everybody should move on as he has already apologised for his bite.

“There is no justification for what Suarez did, but things like that occur when you lose your head – it can happen”, Puyol told FIFA.

“At any rate, he has apologised for it. He’s a great footballer, extremely competitive and scores a great deal.”

Puyol, who now serves as assistant sporting director at the Camp Nou, is excited to see Suarez in action for the Catalan giants and feels he will add an extra dimension to their attacking play.

“I think he can bring a lot to an attack that’s already brimming with quality. With Luis, we can be even stronger.”

Suarez will not be available for selection for Barcelona due to his ban until October, but could make his debut against Real Madrid on 26th of that month.
