Manchester United have sold Portuguese striker Bebe to Lisbon giants Benfica for a fee of €3m.

Bebe, who spent last season on loan in Portugal, had been training with Manchester United's reserves and waiting for the green light to head to Benfica.

And that came earlier today as he penned a four-year deal with the Portuguese champions.

Bebe was quick to express his delight at the move, telling his new club's site: "I want to score many goals and bring lots of joy to the fans."

The 24-year-old spent last term with Pacos de Ferreira and found the back of the net on 13 occasions, catching Benfica's eye.

As part of the deal, Manchester United hold a clause entitling them to 50% of the transfer fee if Bebe is sold by Benfica.

Bebe cost Manchester United £7m to sign in 2010.
