Tottenham Hotspur have appointed former England defender Ugo Ehiogu as the coach of their Under-21 side.

The 43-year-old played for the likes of Aston Villa, Middlesbrough and made more than 500 appearances at club level.

He also earned four England caps and has an international goal to his name when he scored in a 3-0 win over Spain in 2001.

The former Villa defender will be assisted by former Tottenham academy player Matthew Wells, who was previously in charge of the club’s Under-15 side.

Ehiogu has been working in the club’s academy on a part-time basis and will take charge of the Under-21 side for next season.
