Arsenal have asked Southampton about the availability of midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin as they close in on snapping up right-back Calum Chambers.

Southampton defender Chambers had a medical with Arsenal yesterday and a fee of around the £16m mark has been agreed between the two clubs.

However, according to the BBC, the Gunners have also asked Southampton about potentially snapping up France international midfielder Schneiderlin.

Ronald Koeman's men are being mercilessly raided by Premier League rivals this summer, having lost Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana to Liverpool, while Luke Shaw has joined Manchester United.

Liverpool are also close to signing Dejan Lovren from the Saints, while Jay Rodriguez has also been linked with a move to Anfield.
