Liverpool have seen a bid of €18m for Xherdan Shaqiri knocked back by Bayern Munich, who are looking to extend the winger's contract at the Allianz Arena.

Shaqiri has been linked with leaving the German champions all summer after expressing his discontent at missing key games last term, while also suggesting he had a better relationship with Jupp Heynckes, incumbent Pep Guardiola's predecessor.

Liverpool are one of Shaqiri's suitors and recently, according to Swiss daily Blick, recently sent an offer of €18m to Bayern Munich for the 22-year-old.

The Bavarians quickly dismissed the offer out of hand and convened a meeting of their senior staff to discuss Shaqiri's situation.

And the club are plotting offering the former FC Basel man a contract extension to show their faith in his abilities.

At present the winger's contract at the Allianz Arena runs until the summer of 2016, but Bayern Munich are ready to offer Shaqiri an extension to 2017 or 2018.

Shaqiri is currently on holiday and it remains to be seen whether he is willing to extend his deal with the Bundesliga champions or instead wants a switch to pastures new.
