Manchester United have met with Edinson Cavani's agent on four occasions as they seek to do a deal for the Paris Saint-Germain striker, according to Uruguayan outlet Ovacion.

Cavani recently told the same outlet that he feels he will remain at PSG this summer as the club's coach Laurent Blanc has indicated he will switch tactics to accommodate him, although he did leave an element of doubt. The striker said: "I am at Paris, I think I will stay here, but you never know with the transfer window.

"There was a discussion with Laurent Blanc before the end of the season and I think there will be a new tactical scheme this season."

Manchester United are not giving up hope of snaring the former Napoli man though and have held four meetings with his agent.

Cavani is believed to be desperate to quit PSG and move to Manchester United, but doing a deal with the French champions is proving difficult.

The Red Devils are at present willing to pay only €48m for Cavani, while PSG splashed out €64.5m to sign him from Napoli last summer.

PSG do need to work to comply with UEFA's financial fair play rules, which have already seen them fined €60m and forced to sign Serge Aurier from Toulouse on loan with a mandatory purchase option; financial fair play rules meant PSG could capture the Ivory Coast right-back in no other way, or else risk breaching the rules.

It remains to be seen however whether the Red Devils will be willing to tempt PSG by talking about a higher fee.
