Manchester United have opened talks with Atletico Madrid over the signing of winger Arda Turan, according to French broadcaster Eurosport.

Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal is looking to bolster his squad this summer and has been handed a sizeable transfer kitty by the English giants.

And it appears Turkey international Turan is on his radar, with contact being initiated with Atletico Madrid over a possible deal.

It remains to be seen whether the Spanish champions are willing to sell one of their most influential players, especially after suffering several key losses already.

Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has been recalled from his loan by Chelsea, while the Blues have also scooped up left-back Filipe Luis and striker Diego Costa.

Another striker has also left, in the shape of David Villa, for New York City FC.

Atletico Madrid did recently re-sign midfielder Tiago however, following the expiration of his contract at the Vicente Calderon, amid strong interest from Chelsea.

Turan only signed a new contract with Los Rojiblancos last year, but in May his agent admitted an offer from an unnamed English club had been made.

He said: "An offer from an English club has arrived.

"As in every transfer, two parties, the player and the club, they must make a decision."
