Newcastle United are looking into making a move for wantaway Shakhtar Donetsk striker Facundo Ferreyra, according to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato.

The Argentine hitmen is amongst a group of players who have refused to return to the Ukraine due to fighting in the country – and he is now thought to be looking for the exit door.

A number of Shakhtar Donetsk players refused to return to the Ukraine following a friendly in France, a move to which the club responded by moving their training base to Kyiv and matches to Lviv, over 600 miles away from Donetsk, which is currently controlled by pro-Russia fighters.

The club have succeeded in tempting back Brazilian midfielder Fred, but could still suffer a player exodus.

And as Magpies boss Alan Pardew chases further reinforcements, Ferreyra is now being looked at closely by Newcastle.

He is a player the Magpies were interested in when he still plied his trade in his native Argentina and one they could now rekindle their interest in.

Ferreyra, who is under contract at the Donbass Arena until 2018, has made a total of 22 appearances for Shakhtar Donetsk in all competitions, hitting the back of the net on six occasions.

He helped the Miners to collect last season's Ukrainian Premier League title.
