Lyon are growing increasingly confident of keeping hold of forward Alexandre Lacazette after he did not respond favourably to an approach from Newcastle United.

Lacazette has been linked with leaving Lyon this summer after attracting attention from a number of clubs, including last season's Premier League runners-up Liverpool.

But Lyon have been keen to keep hold of their top scorer from last term and are talking over a new contract with the striker; his current deal ends in 2016.

And Les Gones have seen their hopes boosted after Lacazette gave a cold response to an approach from Newcastle, according to French sports daily L'Equipe.

The Magpies moved for the forward, but Lacazette is not interested in moving to St. James' Park and the French outfit are now confident of being able to keep the goalscorer at the club and are looking at other potential player sales to raise funds.

On the potential exit list are Clement Grenier and Samuel Umiti, as Les Gones aim to raise €20m in the current transfer window.

Lacazette scored 22 goals in all competitions for Lyon last season.
