Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has refused to be drawn into commenting on Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin, a player his side are widely believed to be battling Arsenal for the services of.

Pochettino knows Schneiderlin well, having managed the France international at St. Mary's last season, before upping sticks for White Hart Lane earlier this summer.

The Argentine has been tipped to return to his former stomping ground to snap up Schneiderlin, but the former Strasbourg man is also wanted by Arsenal, who enquired about his availability while doing a deal with Southampton for defender Calum Chambers recently.

But Pochettino does not want to add fuel to the transfer fire.

Asked about a potential bid for Schneiderlin, Pochettino was quoted as saying by Eurosport: "I want to improve my team, but I never talk about players from other teams."

Schneiderlin joined Southampton from French outfit Strasbourg in 2008, costing the Saints a fee of just €1.5m.

The 24-year-old broke through into the senior France squad this year and was part of Didier Deschamps' group which headed to the World Cup in Brazil earlier this summer.
