Wolfsburg sporting director Klaus Allofs has conceded his side are keen on signing Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku, but dismissed reports they are poised to pay €25m for the Belgian.

Lukaku has spent the last two seasons on loan away from Chelsea, at West Brom and Everton respectively, and is looking to ensure regular game time once again in 2014/15.

That appears unlikely at Stamford Bridge and Chelsea are thought to be willing to sell him for the right price, although boss Jose Mourinho does not want to strengthen domestic rivals.

Wolfsburg then have hope of tempting the striker to the Bundesliga, but it will not be for €25m, Allofs insists.

"At this price, surely not", he deal-maker told Bild am Sontag.

"But he is an excellent player and the fact that we are looking for a striker is something everyone knows", he added.

It remains to be seen whether Lukaku, who starred at the World Cup with Belgium this summer, is open to continuing his career at the Volkswagen Arena.

The striker, who is still officially on holiday, has been training with former club Anderlecht to keep fit.
