Former Arsenal and France winger Robert Pires has agreed to play in the newly formed Indian Super League.

The Frenchman will feature for one of the eight franchises that will take part in the ISL beginning in September this year.

Pires was a member of France’s 1998 World Cup winning squad and also played his part in their success in the European Championship in 2000. He made 79 appearances for his country and scored 14 goals.

The Frenchman played a crucial role in Arsenal’s undefeated league campaign in the 2003/04 season and scored 62 goals in 189 league appearances between 2000 and 2006 for the Gunners.

"I am very happy to be part of the new league when passion for football in India is on the rise", the 40-year-old was quoted as saying by the BBC.
