Bologna striker Robert Acquafresca is of interest to Leeds United, after the Rossoblu moved to capture another player who had been on the English club's radar in the form of Daniele Cacia.

Leeds had been looking into snapping up the former Hellas Verona hitman, but have been beaten to his signature by Bologna.

Indeed, according to Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport, Cacia is expected to be officially confirmed as a new arrival in the near future.

That could though open the door for Bologna to offload Acquafresca, who Leeds could sign in lieu of Cacia.

Acquafresca is a product of Inter's youth system, but was unable to make a senior team breakthrough with the Nerazzurri and headed off for spells with Treviso and Cagliari before joining Genoa.

The 26-year-old also spent time with Atalanta, before returning to Cagliari for a similar spell.

Acquafresca joined Bologna in 2011 and had a brief loan spell with Spanish outfit Levante last year.

The striker, who has been capped at every youth level by Italy but has never won a senior cap, is well known to Leeds owner Massimo Cellino, who took him to former club Cagliari on two occasions.
