Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has heaped praise on his attacking trio of Daniel Sturridge, Raheem Sterling and Lazar Markovic, following their impressive display in a 1-0 win over Olympiacos last night.

Markovic, who joined the Reds from Benfica this summer, was deployed by Rodgers alongside last season’s stellar performers Sturridge and Sterling.

Sterling scored the only goal of the game after just five minutes to hand Liverpool the full three points in their opening International Champions Cup fixture.

And Rodgers, who individually lauded Sturridge, Sterling and Markovic, felt the attacking trio were “really exciting” against the Greek outfit.

"I've seen a difference in Daniel since he came back", the Northern Irishman told his club’s official site.

"He has obviously got confidence from the World Cup and his season last year.

"I think he's ready to take on the mantle. He got 20-odd goals last season so he's a striker of great value.

"Markovic will only get better and better. He showed great strength when he burst through and hopefully later on when he picks up that speed and sharpness in his game, he'll go on and finish that.

"We've got good speed. Raheem Sterling is always a threat – he's a joy to watch. I thought those three were really exciting."

Rodgers, whose side will next face their Premier League rivals Manchester City on Wednesday, is currently in the market for another striker after Liverpool pulled the plug on a deal for Loic Remy, following the Frenchman’s failed medical.
