Liverpool could refocus their efforts to sign a new striker on Lyon hitman Alexandre Lacazette, following the collapse of their move for Loic Remy.

Brendan Rodgers' men had activated a clause in Remy's contract at QPR and were closing in on the £8.5m signing of the France international striker.

However, Remy's medical results caused concern for Liverpool officials and they have abandoned their plan to snap him up, despite the Frenchman spending the best part of a week waiting at the Reds' Boston training base.

Now, according to French sports daily L'Equipe, Liverpool could once again focus on Lyon's Lacazette, a player they have watched closely over the last year.

Lyon have been hoping to keep hold of Lacazette, who recently snubbed an approach from Newcastle United, and have been discussing a contract extension with the 23-year-old.

However, if Liverpool make an approach for the France international, the picture could significantly change.

Lacazette, a product of Lyon's youth system, scored 15 goals in 32 Ligue 1 games for Les Gones last term. He bagged 22 in all competitions, making him the club's top scorer for 2013/14.
