Jan Vertonghen admits that he is flattered by the interest from Barcelona, but said that he will be returning to Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

The Belgian joined Spurs in 2012 from Ajax and still has two years left on his current deal with the club, with a new five-year deal on the cards, something he is pleased about.

“There will always be rumours, but I will return to Tottenham”, the defender told Belgian station Radio 1.

Barcelona are in the market to sign defenders this summer and have already secured the signature of left-back Jeremy Mathieu from Valencia.

The Blaugrana are looking to add one more defender to their squad and Vertonghen has been touted as a possible transfer target for the Catalans.

The 27-year-old admits that interest from Barcelona is flattering, but said that there is not much substance to the story to report.

“Interest from a club like Barcelona obviously flatters me, it means I am doing well.

“I am told there is no smoke without fire, but at the moment there is certainly no fire.”

Vertonghen has made 82 appearances for Tottenham, scoring eight goals and providing four assists.
