Brendan Rodgers is delighted by what he has seen from his Liverpool squad so far in pre-season and has little doubt that they will be ready to take on Southampton on 17th August.

Liverpool have played two friendlies in the United States recently, losing their opening clash against Roma 1-0, while edging out Olympiacos 1-0 yesterday.

And Rodgers is delighted with what he has seen from his players, both new and old, with the Anfield outfit having been busy in the transfer market in recent weeks.

"I'm really pleased with how it's all coming along. The players have literally just come back, the World Cup players, so we've only really been as a squad over this last week or so", Rodgers explained at a press conference.

"I know this group well and I know the players who are coming in will fit what we want to do.

"The most important date for me is the Southampton game and come that game we'll be ready. The players have shown that they are well on track towards that."

Liverpool have just three more friendlies to play before they lock horns with the Saints in their opening Premier League fixture of the 2014/15 campaign.

On Wednesday they meet Manchester City, while on Saturday AC Milan provide the opposition. They conclude their preparations by hosting Borussia Dortmund on 10th August.
