West Ham custodian Sam Howes has stated that he is going to relish every opportunity that comes his way, to move on with his career.

The 16-year-old is among the select few to have made a senior debut for the club at such a young age, when he came off the bench for the final 15 minutes of the Hammers' 3-1 defeat to Sydney FC.

Even though the result was disappointing, the teenager is satisfied to have had the opportunity to play.

He also adds that the aim for him now will be to play as many Under-21 games as possible and manage more opportunities to train with the first team during the upcoming season.

"A good season would be to play as many Under-21s games as possible and to keep training with the first team."

Howes is also hopeful of getting the occasional opportunites during cup matches, which he believes will give him the chance to impress.

"Hopefully I'll get into the squad for some of the Capital One Cup or FA Cup games – I just have to wait and see really.

"I'll just take it as it comes and move onwards and upwards, as you do."
