Barcelona believe Liverpool defender Daniel Agger represents the most affordable central defensive option on offer this summer.

The Catalan giants are aiming to snap up a centre-back, but have seen interest in Paris Saint-Germain's Marquinhos, Arsenal's Thomas Vermaelen and Tottenham's Jan Vertonghen threaten to cost a hefty fee.

According to Catalan daily Sport, Barcelona believe Agger may well be available for just €15m following Liverpool's signing of Croatia defender Dejan Lovren from Southampton.

And Agger has a cheerleader at Barcelona, with sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta a firm fan of his talents.

Indeed, the sporting director believes the Denmark international would fit perfectly into the Barcelona backline and is actively campaigning for his arrival at the Camp Nou.

Agger appears to be closer to the Liverpool exit door than at any point since he joined the Reds in 2006, due to Lovren's arrival and the already fierce competition for a starting spot at Anfield.

Boss Brendan Rodgers can call upon Mamadou Sakho, Martin Skrtel, Tiago Ilori, Kolo Toure and Lovren to play in the centre of defence.
