Daniel Sturridge has claimed that he will step up to fill the void at Liverpool left by the departure of Luis Suarez.

The Uruguayan completed his switch from Liverpool to Barcelona earlier this month after spending three-and-a-half seasons in England and becoming a talisman at Anfield.

Suarez and Sturridge formed one of the most prolific strike forces in European football last season, scoring 53 league goals between them. And Sturridge knows he was part of something very special.

"It was a unique partnership, and I wish Luis all the best”, the England striker was quoted as saying by ITV.

“We shared some good times together. We created history with our goals and became the most successful Liverpool partnership in one season.”

However, the 24-year-old feels that he can improve on his performance next season and fill the gap left by the departure of Suarez this summer.

"But in terms of next season for the goals, I'll step up myself and everyone has to. It's everyone's job to do that, the new boys who have come in as well as the players who have been there all season.”

The Uruguayan scored 31 goals in 33 league appearances for Liverpool last season and the club came close to ending their 24 year long league title drought, ultimately finishing second in the standings.
