Everton have confirmed the signing of Bosnia and Herzegovina international Muhamed Besic from Ferencvaros for an undisclosed fee.

The 21-year-old, who featured in all three of his country’s World Cup fixtures in Brazil, has signed a five-year deal with the Toffess which will keep him at Goodison Park until 2019.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez revealed last week that his side were close to completing the transfer for the versatile midfielder.

And the Spaniard, who was delighted with his latest acquisition, feels Besic will strengthen the Merseyside club’s defensive ability.

"Muhamed is a young footballer who has developed massively in the last two seasons", Martinez explained to his club’s official site.

"He has been playing as a centre-half and as a defensive midfielder at an incredible level.

"What he did with Bosnia and Herzegovina in the World Cup, he showed that he is a really mature footballer, that he covers the ground really well, that he is very dynamic and technically very gifted.

"He is bringing us really good strength in an important part of the side."

Besic, who joined Hungarian outfit Ferencvaros from Stuttgart only last season, becomes Everton’s second summer signing after Gareth Barry made his move from Manchester City permanent, following a successful loan spell at the club last term.
