Louis van Gaal has stressed that Manchester United will continue to play in his new system, but feels reverting back to a more traditional formation, when needed, won’t be an issue for his squad.

Van Gaal has introduced the system of playing three at the back at Manchester United this season and they have won both their pre-season friendlies so far, against LA Galaxy and Roma.

The Dutchman has said that he won’t be switching systems as he feels that the squad still need get used to the new formation before the start of the new season.

"It’s difficult to change the systems and I had to start this system at once because we don’t have time to change it", Van Gaal said via his club's site.

"We only have three weeks before the season starts, so I have to use all my training sessions to implement this system.”

The former Ajax manager feels reverting back to a more traditional formation won’t be an issue for the squad if needed however.

"They know already the other system [4-4-2 or 4-3-3]; they have played that from their youth, so that’s easy.”

Manchester United take on Inter Milan in their next season pre-season friendly later today at the Fedex Field, Washington DC.
