Wolfsburg's push for a new striker is leading them to rival Tottenham Hotspur for Roma star Mattia Destro.

The Bundesliga outfit have been on the trail of Chelsea's Romelu Lukaku, but doing a deal for the Belgian has proven to be expensive, while the player's first choice is to remain in England's Premier League.

Now, according to German magazine Sport Bild, the Wolves are looking in the direction of Destro, something which could put them on a collision course with Spurs.

The White Hart Lane outfit have been sniffing around Destro, with the club's sporting director Franco Baldini mooted as preparing a bid to snap up the 23-year-old.

Roma are reluctant to consider cashing in on the Italy international, but are thought to be ready to listen to offers exceeding the €30m mark.

Wolfsburg are lining up a €22m opening bid for Destro, however Roma's reaction to such an offer remains to be seen.

Destro has made a total of 49 appearances for the Giallorossi since joining the club in 2012, scoring 24 goals in the process.
