Arsene Wenger's Arsenal face competition from both Chelsea and Manchester United for Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho, according to Spanish daily Marca.

William powered Sporting Lisbon's push to second spot in the Portuguese Primeira Liga last term, booking a return to the Champions League for the capital club.

William has attracted consistent attention from Premier League clubs for the last 12 months, something which saw giants Manchester United sending scouts to watch 66% of his games last term.

Arsenal made the first concrete move this summer though, Wenger's men seeing a dispute over payment terms cause Sporting Lisbon to reject an offer for their midfield starlet.

Now they have company in their bid to snap up the 22-year-old, with Chelsea and Manchester United preparing to rival them for William's signature.
