Manchester United’s Ashley Young has insisted that he is confident of playing in any position for the team.

The Red Devils won their latest pre-season friendly 5-3 on penalties against Inter Milan last night at the FedEX Field in Washington.




Young has played in various positions in pre-season for the club and the winger is relishing this opportunity to try his hand at different roles for new boss Louis van Gaal.

"It’s been good to play in the different positions", the England international told the club’s official site.
 


The winger has played as a forward and as a wing-back in Manchester United’s pre-season tour and he has insisted that he is confident of playing in different positions.

"I started on the left [against Inter] and ended up on the right.

"I can play in both wingback positions and if the manager calls on me to do something I’ve got every confidence in myself to go out there and play well."

Van Gaal has praised Young’s performances in pre-season and the former Aston Villa winger is ready to repay his manager’s faith in him with better performances in the games to come.

"It’s always nice to hear praise from the manager and when he puts that belief in you to go out there and perform you want to repay him, and that’s exactly what I’m looking to do every time I pull on the United shirt", he added.

Manchester United next take on European champions Real Madrid in a pre-season friendly at the Michigan Stadium on Saturday.
