Brendan Rodgers has hinted that Kolo Toure may prolong his stay at Liverpool for the upcoming season.

The centre-back, who joined the Reds from Manchester City on a free transfer last season, has been linked with a move away from Anfield this summer, with Turkish outfit Trabzonspor interested in roping in the 33-year-old.

Toure has experience of winning the Premier League title twice, during his time at Arsenal and Manchester City, and the defender came close to lifting the trophy for the third time in his debut season on Merseyside as Liverpool finished just two points behind the Citizens.

And Rodgers, who side boast four international centre-backs apart from Toure, namely Daniel Agger, Martin Skrtel, Mamadou Sakho and Dejan Lovren, still feels Liverpool require the services of the Ivory Coast international.

"Kolo has been an incredible player. We brought him in because he is a winner, an authentic winner”, the manager explained to his club’s official site.

"He's someone who doesn't play every single week but when he does play, he plays very well. Every day of his life in training, he gives his all.

"Players like Kolo and Steven [Gerrard], the older statesmen of the team, have been absolutely first class. We're hungry and ambitious; we went close last year.

"That inspires us and gives us great motivation to go on this year. That is the beauty of this group of players – it's a very hungry group because that's what we're trying to bring in."

Toure, who has a further year left on his present contract with Liverpool, made 24 appearances in all competitions for the club last term.
