Chelsea have joined the race to sign Barcelona and Manchester United target Miranda from Atletico Madrid.

Miranda’s future at the Vicente Calderon has been a source of constant speculation throughout the summer, with a number of top European clubs making a beeline for the Brazilian defender’s signature.

Barcelona and Manchester United are believed to be leading the race to sign the 29-year-old defender, who was a crucial cog in Atletico Madrid’s league title winning team last season, while they also reached the Champions League final.

However, Chelsea have joined the race to sign the defender and have made a €25m offer to Atletico Madrid, according to Madrid-based daily Marca.

Jose Mourinho bought Diego Costa and Felipe Luis from the Spanish champions earlier this month and is hoping to agree another deal with the club for Miranda.

The defender has a €30m buy-out clause and Los Colchoneros are not believed to be willing to accept anything less than the touted figure.

Chelsea’s offer is still short of the figure that the Spaniards are demanding for the Brazilian, but if the club are serious about signing the defender they might raise the stakes.

Chelsea still expect to face stiff competition from Barcelona and Manchester United, who have been tracking the defender throughout the summer.
