Former Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari has joined Gremio, after the Porto Alegre club confirmed the appointment.

The Selecao endured a disappointing World Cup campaign under Scolari as the host nation were thrashed 7-1 by eventual winners Germany in the semi-finals, before losing 3-0 to the Netherlands in the third-place playoff game.

However, the 65-year-old, who was replaced as Brazil coach by Dunga after the tournament, did not have to wait long to find his next managerial assignment as Gremio came calling.

Scolari has already managed Gremio twice before in 1987 and from 1993 to 1996, and guided the club to the Copa Libertadores title and the Brazilian championship in his second spell in charge at the Arena do Gremio.

The former Chelsea and Portugal boss led Brazil to Confederations Cup success on home soil one year earlier, something which had increased already sky high expectations ahead of the World Cup.

Scolari also helped Brazil to win the World Cup during his first spell in charge, in 2002.
