Louis van Gaal is of the opinion that Manchester United played their best match under him, following the Premier League club’s 5-3 win over Inter Milan on penalties last night.

After a goalless 90 minutes at the FedEx Field, the match went into penalties, where the English outfit prevailed.

And Van Gaal, whose side stayed atop Group A of the International Champions Cup with five points from two games, was very pleased with the overall performance of Manchester United.

The Dutchman felt the Old Trafford club dominated proceedings throughout the course of the match and were the deserved winners.

"I am very pleased. I think we played by far the best match of our sequence of three”, Van Gaal explained to his club’s official site.

"They only had one shot on our goal and that was given by the referee [a free-kick], but I think we also created six or seven chances, so then it is seven against one.

"I was very pleased with our ball possession; it was much better than the other matches. And I think also the positions were better covered.

"So I was tonight very pleased with the performance of my players, both in the first half and the second half."

Manchester United, who edged out Roma 3-2 in their International Champions Cup opener at the weekend, will next face Spanish heavyweights Real Madrid in their final group stage game of the tournament on Saturday.
