Monaco are interested in signing German defender Antonio Rudiger from Bundesliga side VfB Stuttgart, a player West Ham contacted the Swabian club about earlier this summer.

The 21-year-old, who has also been linked with FC Porto, joined the club’s youth set-up from Borussia Dortmund in 2011 and made his debut against Borussia Monchengladbach in January 2012.

The central defender has impressed with his performances for Stuttgart and made 30 league appearances for the club last season.

Monaco’s scouts kept a close eye on the young defender throughout last season and the club are preparing to make a move for him this summer, according to L’Equipe.

The Ligue 1 side feel that the youngster has the potential to become a top class defender in the future and are ready to take a gamble on him.
