Shinji Kagawa is delighted at his initial taste of life under Louis van Gaal at Manchester United and believes his pre-season preparations are proceeding smoothly.

The midfielder's future has been a source of constant speculation this summer, amid suggestions he may not fit into the new order at Old Trafford.

But Kagawa is working hard to impress Van Gaal on Manchester United's pre-season tour of the United States and is aiming to feature in the club's upcoming friendly against Real Madrid on Saturday.

"I think I have been training with focus every day. Pre-season is important to develop my physical strength", the Japan international told his club's site.

"I learn a lot from training as we have a new manager with new tactics and a new formation", Kagawa continued.

"I am working to get myself into shape. It is good that I have been doing so without picking up any injuries."

Manchester United have won all three of their pre-season friendlies in the United States under Van Gaal, beating Los Angeles Galaxy 7-0 in the Chevrolet Cup and following up the victory by beating Roma 3-2 in the International Champions Cup.

They most recently beat Inter in the same competition, but needed penalties to win after a 0-0 90-minute draw.
