Former Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has revealed that he would jump at the chance to coach Italy.

The Italian manager’s post is up for grabs after Cesare Prandelli resigned after the country’s exit from the first round of the World Cup.

Mancini is believed to be one of the candidates in contention for the top job of Italian football and the 49-year-old is enthused by the prospect of managing the Azzurri.

The former Lazio man stated that he would come “running” if he was offered the job, but confirmed that no one from the Italian FA has contacted him until now.

"I've always been patriotic, I never forget about Italy even when I've been working abroad", Mancini told Il Giorno.

"Who doesn't dream about coaching their national team? I'd come running. The reality, however, is that for now, no one has called me."

The former Inter manager earned 36 international caps for Italy as a player.

Mancini left the manager’s job at Galatasaray at the end of last season through mutual consent. Coincidentally, the Turkish outfit appointed Prandelli as their manager last month.
