Serie A side Lazio are preparing an offer for Aston Villa defender Ron Vlaar as they bid to reunite him with Netherlands team-mate Stefan de Vrij.

Vlaar turned out alongside De Vrij at this summer's World Cup, helping the Netherlands record a third-place finish in Brazil.

Lazio recently tied up the signing of De Vrij from Feyenoord, signing the defender to a five-year contract at the Stadio Olimpico.

According to Sky Italia, the Rome giants are now in the process of preparing a bid for Vlaar, as they attempt to recreate a slice of the Netherlands in their heart of their backline.

Vlaar is currently on holiday following his World Cup efforts for the Oranje, but has promised to speak with his agent to resolve his future upon his return.

The centre-back is also clear in his belief that Aston Villa want to keep hold of him and will resist his departure.

However, with money tight at Villa Park, the English side may be tempted by a concrete proposal for Vlaar which would allow boss Paul Lambert to reinvest any money received.
