Napoli want Manchester United to agree to a season-long loan for Marouane Fellaini, while contributing towards his wages in Italy.

The Azzurri are keen to scoop up Fellaini to bolster their midfield options and believe the Belgian is open to the switch after a lacklustre debut season with the Red Devils.

Fellaini's future under new boss Louis van Gaal is uncertain, but Napoli have been quoted an asking price of €25m to sign the former Everton schemer.

That is too much for Napoli to stomach and, according to Tutto Mercato, the Italian side only want to take the midfielder on loan.

And Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis wants Manchester United to pay a portion of Fellaini's wages during his spell in Italy, due to the hefty nature of his current pay packet at Old Trafford.

It remains to be seen whether Manchester United will consent to Napoli's wishes, although the Azzurri do want a purchase option built into the deal.

Fellaini cost Manchester United £27.5m to sign from Everton last summer.
