French Ligue 1 club Saint-Etienne are keen to snap up Ricky van Wolfswinkel from Norwich City and are in talks with the Canaries about a deal for the 25-year-old.

Les Verts have just offloaded veteran Brazilian striker Brandao to Bastia and want the Dutchman to spearhead their attack in the upcoming campaign.

According to French radio station RMC, Saint-Etienne have opened talks with both Norwich and Van Wolfswinkel's representatives.

And while no deal has yet been agreed with the player's English Championship club, Saint-Etienne are stepping up their efforts to take him to France.

Indeed, Les Verts are hoping to progress talks at such a rate that the former Sporting Lisbon man could undergo a medical at the weekend.

Van Wolfswinkel, who could not help Norwich avoid relegation from the Premier League last season, is thought to be very interested in answering Saint-Etienne's call.
