Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher has backed the club’s summer signings Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw to succeed at Old Trafford.

Herrera joined the Red Devils from Athletic Bilbao in late June and has impressed during the Old Trafford outfit’s pre-season tour of the United States.

Shaw, who represented England at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, was then snapped up from Southampton just a day after Herrera’s arrival at the club.

And Fletcher feels the duo have it in them to develop into “real” Manchester United players.

The Scotland international, who is the longest serving player in the current Manchester United squad, went on to add that he believes his side will also reap long-term benefits from the signings of both Herrera and Shaw.

“First and foremost, they’re both great lads. They’re also top-quality players on the pitch", Fletcher told his club’s official site.

“There’s no doubt in my mind they’re great acquisitions – not just for the quality they bring to the team right now but for what they’ll bring in the future.

“They’re both young and should have many years ahead of them here. I’m sure they’ll develop into real Manchester United players and help us win trophies.”

Fletcher, who has a further year left on his current contract with Manchester United, is a product of the club’s youth system and made his first-team debut in 2003.
