Barcelona are poised to move for Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen, if Spurs manage to capture Mateo Musacchio from Villarreal.

The north London side are keen on Musacchio, but Villarreal are waiting to discover whether they can sign Brazilian centre-back Maicon from FC Porto, something which would open the door for the Argentine defender to head to White Hart Lane.

And it is this that Barcelona are watching closely, according to Todo Deportes, as it would prompt a move to secure Vertonghen.

Barcelona are in the hunt for a new centre-back, but have so far been frustrated in their efforts.

Paris Saint-Germain are standing firm over keeping Marquinhos, while the roads to Liverpool's Daniel Agger and Arsenal's Thomas Vermaelen are rocky.

The Catalans are hoping to snap up Vertonghen, despite Tottenham preparing a new contract for the Belgian, and are hopeful the signing of Musacchio will convince Mauricio Pochettino's men to do business.

Should the dominoes not fall correctly for the Camp Nou outfit, they will rekindle their interest in Agger and attempt to push through a deal.
