Brondby majority shareholder Jan Bech Andersen has insisted he was not suggesting the Danish club could sign Daniel Agger from Liverpool this summer when he revealed his intention to bring the defender back to his former stomping ground.

Andersen had suggested Brondby have their eye on bringing Agger back, but stressed the time must be right for a deal to go through. And the majority shareholder has now clarified his comments, calling thoughts that the 29-year-old could return this summer "utopian".

"It does not make economic sense. How in the world could we make it work?" Andersen told Ekstra Bladet.

"The man has a contract with Liverpool for another two years and reportedly earns 50m kroner (£5.3m).

"It is utopian to imagine that he would come to Brondby now and it's annoying that the rumour should be blown up like this."

Agger is facing serious opposition for a starting spot at Liverpool this season after the Reds snapped up Croatian centre-back Dejan Lovren from Southampton.

The defender, who joined Liverpool from Brondby in 2006, has been linked with Spanish giants Barcelona, who are in the hunt for a new centre-back.
