Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew has admitted that his side are working on a deal to sign striker Facundo Ferreyra on loan from Shakhtar Donetsk.

With the ongoing crisis in the Ukraine, the Argentine forward was among a group of players who refused to return to the country and he is looking for a way out.

The Premier League outfit therefore are hopeful that they can add to their striking force by persuading the 23-year-old to move to St. James' Park this summer.

"It's something that is not done", Pardew was quoted as saying by the BBC.

"But we're working to see if that can happen.

"Facundo is a good presence on the pitch, a big guy at 6ft 2in, a player who has gone to the Ukraine and has been OK."

Ferreyra managed a total of 22 appearances for the Ukranian outfit during the 2013/14 season and scored six goals.
