Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has explained that he is looking forward to playing in front of the Blues faithful at Stamford Bridge.

The Belgian international, who spent the past three seasons on loan at Atletico Madrid, returned to Chelsea this summer and is tipped to become the club’s number one choice between the sticks.

During his spell with Los Rojiblancos, Courtois had experience of playing at Stamford Bridge when the Spanish side took on Chelsea in the semi-finals of the Champions League last season.

With a goalless first leg affair at the Vicente Calderon, Atletico Madrid trumped the London outfit 3-1 in the second leg to go through to the final of the continental tournament.

And Courtois, who made some fine saves in that game, lauded the appreciation he received from the Chelsea fans after the match and insisted that he cannot wait to play at the ground as a home player.

“To see them clapping me was quite special and hopefully now I can give them joy by helping the team win games and trophies.

“That night was a really good experience, but obviously I was playing for the other side at Stamford Bridge so it was a little bit weird.

“Now I’m just looking forward to playing a game at Stamford Bridge in the Chelsea colours.”
