Newcastle United have officially completed the signing of Argentine striker Facundo Ferreyra from Shakhtar Donetsk on loan.

Ferreyra will spend the entire 2014/15 campaign at St. James' Park, while the Magpies also have a purchase option included in the agreement if he impresses during his stay.

The 23-year-old, who was first on Newcastle's radar in 2011 before he joined Shakhtar Donetsk, has now met up with his new team-mates for this weekend's Schalke Cup tournament in Germany.

"I am very pleased to sign for Newcastle United", he told the club's site.

"I like the Premier League and when I knew that Newcastle were interested in me, it was a very easy decision to make.

"I spoke to my friend Fabricio Coloccini, and when he told me about the club, I didn't need to think twice."

And Newcastle boss Alan Pardew is also pleased with the development, hailing Ferreyra's ability.

"This is a player who has played at the top level and is highly-regarded in Argentina", he said.

"He has tremendous potential and hopefully he can realise that here at Newcastle United."
