Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has taken a dig at Manchester City for signing Frank Lampard.

The England international joined MLS outfit New York City FC, a club affiliated to the Citizens, in the summer, following the expiration of his contract with Chelsea.

But with the new MLS season due to start in March 2015, Lampard has signed a short-term deal with Manchester City, who recently received sanctions on their Champions League squad after breaching UEFA's Financial Fair Play regulations.

And Wenger feels it is a ploy by the English champions to “get around” the fair play rules as he believes all of the clubs affiliated to the Etihad Stadium outfit will be feeding players to Manuel Pellegrini’s side.

"Is it a way to get around the fair play? I don't know," the Frenchman told the BBC.

"It looks like all of these 'City' clubs will feed the main club Manchester City – I heard they want to buy five clubs all over the world.

"I don't know the rules well enough, but they bought a franchise for £59.4m to play in the States next season."

Apart from New York City FC, A-League club Melbourne City are also affiliated to Manchester City.
