Lazio are moving to hand Nigeria midfielder Eddy Onazi a new and improved contract to see off English interest in the player.

Onazi is of interest to Sunderland, Southampton and Everton, and is currently amongst the lowest paid members of the Lazio senior squad, taking home just €200,000 per year.

According to Italian outlet Calcio Mercato, Lazio are moving to tie down Onazi to a new contract and recently met with his agent Jonathan Barnett.

The midfielder wants his salary to be upped to around €1m per year in appreciation of his progress in Rome.

And Lazio president Claudio Lotito is ready to do all he can to keep Onazi out of the hands of his English suitors.
